Sag Awards 2024 Winners

The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, which took place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, marked a significant departure from traditional award shows by streaming live on Netflix, a first for both the SAG Awards and the streaming platform. This allowed for a unique viewing experience, free from censorship and commercial interruptions.

The evening saw expected winners from acclaimed projects such as "The Bear," "Oppenheimer," and "Beef," with actors like Lily Gladstone and Da'Vine Joy Randolph also receiving recognition for their performances in "Killers of the Flower Moon" and "The Holdovers," respectively. Although the ceremony lacked a formal host, Idris Elba took on the role unofficially, bookending the show and providing comic relief throughout.

A star-studded lineup of presenters, including Billie Eilish, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Robert Downey Jr., and SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, added to the glamour of the event. Jennifer Aniston presented Barbra Streisand with the SAG Life Achievement award, with Bradley Cooper also participating in the tribute. Streisand used her acceptance speech to reflect on her six-decade membership with SAG-AFTRA and advocate for a world free from prejudice.

The ceremony featured notable reunions, including the cast of "The Devil Wears Prada" and actors from "Breaking Bad" and "The Fly." "Succession" led the television nominations with five nods, winning the award for best ensemble cast. In the motion picture categories, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" each received four nominations, with the latter taking home three awards, while "Barbie" failed to secure any wins.

The event also served as a reminder of last year's prolonged actors' strike in Hollywood, referenced multiple times throughout the evening. As the last major entertainment awards show before the upcoming Oscars ceremony, the SAG Awards carried added significance in the industry calendar.
