Nollywood Actor, John Okafor, Alias Mr Ibu, Dies At 62

Mr. Ibu's death was confirmed on Saturday March 2nd 2024. He died after suffering a cardiac arrest in a Lagos hospital.  His death comes a day after fellow actor Sisi Quadri passed away in Osun State.

Tributes poured in from Emeka Rollas of Actors Guild of Nigeria and actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie. Singer Peter of P-Square also paid respects.

Mr. Ibu had battled ill health and got his legs amputated after appealing for funds from the public for medical bills. During his illness, his family was involved in conflicts over allegations of embezzling the funds raised.

There were also allegations of an inappropriate affair between Mr. Ibu and his adopted daughter Chioma, which they denied. In his final years, Mr. Ibu claimed to have survived multiple poisoning attempts, up to three.

Other actors who passed away this year include Sisi Quadri and Deji Akinremi.

Mr. Ibu was loved for his comedic roles in Nollywood movies and skits over the years. His passing is a major loss for the Nigerian entertainment industry.
