Nigerian Street pop icon Terry G announces retirement from music

Terry G, real name Gabriel Amanyi, is a pioneer of the Nigerian street pop music style. 

He rose to fame in the late 2000s/early 2010s with hits like "Free Madness" and "Akpako Master".

On February 18, 2023 he announced he is retiring from making music.

In an Instagram post, Terry G stated he is retiring due to health issues that require him to avoid strenuous activities.

The eccentric singer said doctor's orders prompted his difficult decision to leave music for good.

Terry G thanked fans for their support over the years and said he will still release songs he recorded before his retirement.

The street pop icon said he is retiring "without regrets" after a long successful career. 

Fans expressed sadness but praised the impact of his unique style and wished him well.
